Reverend Julianne Lewis has ministered and taught in various spiritual and community settings for the past 35 years. She has been the Senior Pastor of Interfaith CommUNITY since 2000. Her personal beliefs, spiritual training, and study of the world’s major religions have come together to form a rich tapestry of understanding and faith. A highly skilled spiritual and life-issues counselor, Rev. Julianne combines her chemical dependency experience and training with a remarkable insight into human behavior that has a powerful and lasting impact on those who seek her help. Known by her congregation as "Rev J," she has a lively and passionate approach to New Thought ministry, “A Course in Miracles” and a wide range of interfaith teachings. Rev. J offers insightful and inspired teaching that entertains and challenges people to open their minds to a different way of looking at things.
A bright, energetic, and questioning child, Julianne was not fulfilled by the Catholic belief system she was offered in her youth, and began at an early age to search for something more. Her first experience with alternative beliefs was through the Unitarian Universalist Church, where she would secretly flee when her parents dropped her off on Sunday morning at the Catholic church in Wausau, Wisconsin. Her first year at Stephens College introduced her to classes on the Religions of Mankind, and further studies introduced her to New Thought Truth teachings which she combined with studies of Ancient Wisdom. Rev. J. was ordained as an Independent New Thought minister in 1987. In 2003, she received a 2nd ordination as an Independent Unity Minister through the Federation of Practical Christianity.
A strong background in public speaking, marketing and public relations combined with her own natural charisma gives Julianne a commanding stage presence. She is at home with people, whether facilitating small groups, or teaching large audiences from a pulpit. She has an ability to get to the heart of real life issues, and her messages are practical and applicable to daily life. Her knowledge on a wide range of topics makes her a public speaker who can keep the attention of any audience. In addition, she is able to interact with people on a personal level, and truly hear and address the needs of their hearts.
Julianne held responsible management positions in various businesses before entering the ministry. She also co-owned and operated a successful herbal tea company with her son James for a number of years. Her knowledge and experience in the "real world" bring even more strength to her skill set.
Rev. J makes it a habit to always wear one piece of heart shaped jewelry, to remind her to keep her heart open to love, and a bracelet carved with the Prayer of St. Francis, which starts with the phrase, “Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace.” This is her mission and her passion. Her ministry is about inspiring and supporting individuals, families, and other groups to access their inner strength and truth. She skillfully guides and encourages the people she encounters to become more aware of love in their day-to-day walk, and to live lives of integrity, purpose, passion and peace.
